Let me be practical with a live example.
If you visit a big library that is not well decorated but there are tons of books for you. Generally, as the library is not a well-decorated one so you cannot love it. But any time if you visit the nearest relatively smaller but well-decorated library, you definitely be more satisfied because this time you can find your books very easily. So from then you certainly prefer the second library. Your blog is also an online library and it must be clean, well designed so that it would create public attraction.
Here I describe some blog-design tips that I have got from my experience.
Simplicity, Readability, Clarity – Better Typography to Generate Visual Attention
Be Sticky with Your Theme:
At the start of a blogging journey at least 99% blogger has a tendency to change the theme or template of their blog. Because when they find a new attractive template free-of-cost they try to implement that on their blog. This practice is not only bad for Seo but also disturbs public or regular visitors focusing on your blog. Sometimes a visitor can quit your blog forever because they are very professional readers and they consider you as a non-professional blogger.
A theme change means it completely change the structure of a blog and also to search engine it causes difficulties to crawl in a new structure. So search engine bots can change their intervals of coming to your blog and it can definitely harm your search engine rankings.
Your blog is a printed version of your thinking, feelings, and knowledge. So give proper attention to font size, letter spacing, and vertical and horizontal margin. The main things of the templates are the header section, Navigation area, Content area, Sidebar, Footer Section.
The header section represents the Blog name and Blog info. So it should be either in a well-decorated logo formation or in a relatively larger and bold word styling. The position of the header logo or text should be at the top-most section and it will be either in left or in the center of a header area.
As the readers are the treasure of your blog so don’t limit yourself to the smaller fonts on the web. Use standard font sizes as most of the readers prefer it. Use a font size of min 14 to 16px. In a word don’t select such a font that is hard to read or create a strain to the reader’s eye. You can use Georgia and Sans-Serif as a font style. Because accordingly, it is the most browser-friendly and reader-friendly font.
The line spacing is also an important aspect. Just stick the line spacing to 16 to 22 pixels. This definitely provides a good reading experience to the readers. Use clean colors so that it gets a reader-friendly look.
Position of the Sidebar:
Think twice before making a decision about positioning a sidebar. Generally, the left sidebar attracts the reader’s attention to the content placing in the sidebar, whereas the right sidebar gives a good readability experience. So if you are currently running a blog then you should go for a right sidebar preference.
Create a Navigation and place it at the top of your web page so that the navigation area can be viewed from the first landing section of your website. Place important category links or valuable page links at the navigation bar so that people can easily navigate to that area without any trouble. Optionally one can use a secondary sidebar at the footer area.
Try to use post-excerpts:
Instead of showing full articles at the home page of your blog or website, use post excerpts so that you can show all article summary (minimum 8 to 10 articles) right at the Home page.
It provides users with additional support to navigate all the single page of your blog written earlier.
Try to include Images:
You should always try to include relevant image(s) at with blog content. It not only makes your blog look beautiful but also readers can understand the whole fact just seeing the images.
Include Archive Page to Your Blog:
A very essential thing for a blog. Readers can visit all the pages of your blog (unless you hide anything from the Archive section) right from the archive page.
Include a Popular Post Widget:
It set your blog’s value high to the visitors.
Create a Separate Subscribe Us page:
Create a “subscribe us” page and place RSS Links, Social networking Sites Links there and do not forget to place a contact form and comment section to your blog. Because these two things can establish a better public interaction as well as engages readers for spending more time on your blog.
About the Author:
Create an author’s biography page along-with author photo, because it helps visitors to know who actually is behind the blog.
Try to Create your Blog Layout Responsive:
Try to design your template in such a way so that your blog gets a browser-friendly and device-friendly look. Responsive Design is a very important factor behind template designing.
Page Load time:
I always prefer simple web design because it can improve the page load time of your blog. This not only is beneficial to the SEO ranking but also people love to visit your blog when it loads quickly even from the slow internet connection. Check it from the page speed tool.
Last of all some basic suggestions I also want to mention. Don’t use an excessive advertisement for your blog and try to make your sidebar clutter-free. Try to update your blog frequently and give focus on writing original content. These all the above things give a new success to your blogging journey.
